A short fanfic I decided to write about a regiment of the Imperial Guard from the Warhammer 40K universe. I split the story into three parts for easier reading- the second will be up shortly.

Background on the Mordian Iron Guard;

Mordian (the planet) is a hugely overdeveloped hive world of extremes; half of the planet is scorched and uninhabitable thanks to the sun. The other half suffers from eternal night, and is stacked with levels upon levels upon levels of hive cities.

The amount of people on Mordian requires tight rationing, and anarchy and dissent is common. The Mordian Iron Guard regiments combine ruthlessness and discipline with a gaudy air- regiments fight in close-order heavy infantry formations in full dress uniforms. They serve the Emperor off-planet, and act as an anti-anarchy force on-world.

Mordian regiments are renowned for their pride, discipline, incredibly low desertion rates, and utterly devastating volleys.
